Assistant principal assaulted at San Ramon school homecoming dance; teen arrested

An assistant principal at California High School in San Ramon is recovering after being assaulted over the weekend at the school’s homecoming dance, police said.
San Ramon police said its officers responded at 8:46 p.m. on Saturday to the incident and contacted the victim, who police did not identify. The investigation determined the assistant principal was assaulted and dragged by her hair by a juvenile suspect who had attempted to leave the dance before the set time, police said.
San Ramon Valley Unified School District superintendent CJ Cammack said in a community message that the incident happened after the assistant principal approached two students in the parking lot, both of who are enrolled at another school in the district.
In an emailed statement to KPIX, police said the victim had clumps of hair pulled from her scalp and suffered scrapes and bruising. She was not hospitalized.
The 16-year-old suspect was arrested at his home and booked at Juvenile Hall in Martinez on charges of battery causing serious bodily injury and kidnapping.
On Wednesday, police said the investigation was presented to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office, which filed a complaint against the teen on the charges.
“We want to be clear that, in no uncertain terms, this conduct will not be tolerated at Cal High or at any school in SRVUSD,” said Cammack. “We care deeply about the safety and well-being of our students, as well as all of our staff.”
Cammack said the district would cooperate fully in the police investigation, conduct its own investigation, and “pursue all disciplinary consequences to the fullest extent permissible by law.”
The district was offering counseling support for any student or staff member troubled by the incident and also urged anyone with information that would help the police investigation to contact San Ramon police at (925) 973-2700 or school administrators.
